I've gotten all Scarlett O'Hara.

I have not tried to sew clothing in about 20 years or so. Since I have my neighbor's sewing machine, I thought I'd try a very simple circle skirt. I used a skirt of mine for a pattern. Alas, I made it too big. Not a bad first effort, though. I learned a bit in the process.
